In the Sun Lab, Helena Oft is studying the effects of repetitive mild TBI/concussion on brain myelination and the underlying mechanisms for post-concussive white matter damage. Her thesis work seeks to determine if mitochondrial function plays a role in these processes by genetically targeting the NHE1 protein in oligodendrocytes. Outside of the lab, Helena is interested in understanding and treating brain trauma in patients experiencing homelessness and interpersonal violence.
